The Wondrous Cross

Good day!
Sorry I haven't posted anything for awhile--I've been rather busy.
I bought the Narnia soundtrack yesterday! The music is absolutely beautiful. I can just lose myself in good music sometimes.
Anyway, I was in church on Sunday and we sang one of my favorite hymns--"When I Survey the Wondrous Cross." I really, really like the words to that song and I wrote them down on the bulletin while we sang so that I could post them here.

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of Glory died
My richest gain, I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride.

See, from His head, His hands, His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did e'er such love and sorrow meet?
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were and offering far too small
Love so amazing, so divine
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

Beautiful, is it not? The writer explains G0d's sacrifice so poetically...it just touches me.
What do you think? Do you have a favorite Christian song/hymn?
Just a thought,
Write On!!!

Shelby, I love that hymn too! The words are amazing, and when you put in the melody and harmony, it sounds wonderful.

That hymn seems familiar...I think we sing something like it in our church, or maybe that same song, but not that often. But then, being a helper in Sunday school at my church, I don't go to the service all that much....

I think that song is very helpful and inspiring

That's a great Hymn.
At our church, we don't sing olderish songs like that. We do more "modern" ones. One of my favorites is called Wave. It is incredible, especially after a good sermon.

At my dad's church, we sing older hymns. However, at my mom's, it's a great mix of both older and contemporary music. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross is my very favorite, though.

At my church we sing older hymns and we also sing a few contempory (sp?) songs before a sermon. I love Amazing Grace, too! That song is in Enoch's Ghost by Bryan Davis:)
