Treasured Objects

Ok, so I have this dagger...It's got a green sheath and irridiscent silver blade. I love the thing. But anyway, my English class has entered a contest that Writing magazine is having. You're supposed to write a poem, essay, or story about your most treasured object. I thought about what I would pick for awhile, but soon decided on my dagger and wrote the following poem.

Blade of silver, sheath like emerald
A blend of danger and serenity.
Its weight is comfortable in my hand;
It is of highest value to me.

Elegant curve, sharp edge;
Carvings of lions
And gems of red
Holding such intricate design.

I am at ease with it at my side;
I look at it and let my thoughts wander
To realms unseen, horizons bright
And on these things I ponder.

I think of what it means to me,
Representing all that I love:
Courage, strength, and yearning fierce,
Passion given from above.

Some may think it odd or strange
That I should value such as treasure;
But it matters not what they say,
I shall keep my blade, my dagger.

Well, there you have it. What do you think of it? What is your most treasured object?
Write On!!!

Mmmhhhmmm. . . To be the toughest critic in the world: IT WAS TOTALLY AESOME! Keep on writing wonderful poetry! That was amazing. I was able to make a very clear visual aide(sp?) in my head. If those people in the magazine don't pick you, I might have to visit them. . . the hard way. . . lol. Just kidding. But the poem is REALLY great!

God bless you!

My most treasured object---hmmm---since you and Daniel are not objects I cannot say you, although you are greatly treasured!!!!!
Probably for me, the things that you and your brother have made me through the years, and of course my Bible, and that green string I carry around in my pocket---ha,ha, not really.......

I liked it- a lot!! That is an excellent poem. Hmmm...Sapphira posted a poem as well. I'd better get to work or I'll get left behind!

P.S. Shelby, I answered your question on my blog.

Almost forgot- my most treasured thing other than my Bible would be the books on my bookshelf. They are so inspiring, from Ted Dekker to Wayne Thomas Batson, not to mention (although that's exactly what I'm doing) Bryan Davis, Frank Peretti, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis.

Added the link! Hey, I was wondering, why did you choose "Farix Forever" to be the title of your blog? I have to admit, Farix is one of my favoritest characters!

Shelby Marie said...

I chose Farix Forever because he is one of my favorite characters, along with Nock and Bolt.
