Second Meeting

Writer's Block? No problem!
Check out these tips and advice on Writer's Block that we discussed yesterday afternoon at the Writer's Guild.

1. Keep your pen/fingers moving--write something else, skip to a different scene, write a poem, a Bible verse, anything!
2. Pray--it always helps.
3. If you are working on something long, like a book, take a different scene and do a little editing.
4. Physical stimulus--play some music that fits what you're trying to write, and keep objects that create the mood of your current work nearby.
5. Keep pen and paper handy--ideas can come when you least expect it.
6. Try visualizing the scene as a movie in your head.
7. If all else fails, walk away for awhile, but don't give up. Take a walk, pray, ask advice from family and friends, and then get to work again.

Good luck and write on!!!

I just read you post on WTB's blog. Very. . . random. lol. And, Araken, she's thirteen and allowed to have a boyfriend! Like Araken, I'm not allowed to have till I'm married (or 30, whichever comes first:) Thanks for mentioning me in the random thing:)

Yeah Sapphira! Even I remembered your birthday, yet you forgot! I guess I am good at remembering these things after all...

Thanks for the tips Shelby, I've been battling writer's block for a few days now.

I did not forget! It was merely a typo. . .

Say, my birthday is august 28...four days after yours....Hmmm.

And about the writer's block, I usually do one of two things after I have sat for a while thinking: either I go out into the driveway and play hockey (just shooting around), or I reread a book that I like (Eragon or DioM, usually). You'd actually be quite surprised to find out, if you didn't already know, how many great ideas you can get by doing something physical that you really enjoy but doesn't take much effort or thought, or by reading someone else's work. It gives inspiration, ideas, and kind of wakes up your 'writer's brain':)

Ian,
I usually like to read a good book when I have writer's block too. I wonder why I didn't post that...Oh well.

Good tips! You can't imagine how many times I have given myself to the paralysis known as writer's block. Thanks!
